![]() She proudly served on the Building Committee when the new church was built and the Capital Committee when the Family Life Center was built. Her very special interest was the Finance Committee and Counting Team, which she volunteered for over 52 years. Her services included Sunday School Secretary and Treasurer, Alter Guild, Endowment Committee and Fundraiser for the Orange Park United Methodist Women. She was a very active member of the Orange Park United Methodist Church. ![]() She moved to Orange Park, FL in October 1959. In 1943, Helen moved to Coral Gables, FL where she enjoyed working many years for Florida National Bank. She loved to tell of driving a huge truck full of TNT. The company made TNT for our armed services in World War II. She did, however, find her work with the Fraser Brace Engineering Company in Meadville PA, very exciting. Helen was very disappointed when she was told she could not serve as an Eastern Airlines stewardess because she was not a registered nurse. She then attended Butler Business School and Grove City College, where, due to her speed and interest in typing, she was employed by the business professor. ![]() Despite her 5'2" stature, her main interest in high school was basketball and she proudly earned her four letters on the high school team, earning the nickname "Speedy". Helen attended school there, missing only one day in twelve years. Very soon thereafter, when her father completed his work on the Panama Canal and sold his confectionary business in Uruguay, Helen moved with her parents and older sister, Anita, to Pleasantville, PA., very near the spot where the very first commercial oil well was drilled in the United States, by Edwin L. She was born July 18, 1921, in Escanaba, MI to Oscar C. Helen Johnson Brown passed peacefully on January 2, 2023, in Fleming Island, FL, at the age of 101.
